Ibram Lassaw was a well known abstract expressionist artist best known for creating abstract sculpture. Born in Russia in 1913, Ibram Lassaw's family immigrated to Brooklyn in 1921. Ibram Lassaw studied at the Brooklyn Children's Museum, Clay Club, and New York's Beaux Arts Institute of Design and City College.

Ibram Lassaw learned his welding technique while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, which he applied heavily to his art. Lassaw was largely influenced by Contemporary Masters including Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and Julio Gonzàlez. He was represented by the legendary Kootz gallery in New York City with whom he began exhibiting in 1951. Lassaw passed away in East Hampton, New York in December, 2003.
